About Heritage Church
We are empty-nesters, widows and widowers, retired individuals, divorced people, singles and married couples who gather together each Sunday for in-depth, scriptural teaching and preaching from God’s Word. Our music is traditional hymns and familiar praise and worship songs.
Gerry Mathisen became the founding pastor of Heritage Church (formerly New Covenant Community Church) after being approached by the couples desiring to see this church planted in 2007.
Gerry was raised in Wausau, Wisconsin and lived there until leaving for college to begin study and preparation for ministry. Over several years he received a BA in Bible at Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee, a Masters of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas, and a Ph. D in Communication from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. During those years, he was involved in ministry in area churches where he lived while attending school.
After completing his doctoral program at Purdue University, Gerry joined the faculty at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Years later he was offered a professorship at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois where he taught Pastoral Studies, focusing on teaching Homiletics, a course designed to teach students studying for the ministry how to prepare and deliver sermons. During his tenure at Moody he held the position of Department Chair of Pastoral Studies. Prior to moving to Green Bay Gerry was on staff at the Willow Creek Association, an extension of Willow Creek Church in Barrington, Illinois.
Gerry is married to Nancy and they have three children; two daughters, a son, eight grandchildren, and Lucy—a miniature schnauzer who rules their home.
